My Name
My birth (and legal) name is Donald Anderson. I have taken on the name DoAn Forest for artistic purposes to reflect the almost one-third of my life that I’ve spent in Asia. “Do” is based on the Chinese character for “road.” “An” means peace. “Forest” comes from the translation of my Korean family name (”Lim”). The name evokes a peaceful, forest trail.
My Geography
I was born in Petrolia, Ontario, Canada in 1976. My family moved soon after to Calgary, which is where I grew up. I lived in Vancouver from 1994 to 1999, with one year spent between in Lancaster, England (1996-97). I then lived in Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, Okinawa) and Korea (Seoul) from 1999 to 2007, before settling in Kamloops, BC, Canada in early 2007.
