This is footage taken of a sound+video installation that I saw last Friday (March 17th, 2006). The creator of this installation is Seafran from France. These days, he is seen around Seoul DJing dub and reggae. I don’t know if there’s some particular explanation or story behind this installation, but anyway it’s cool just as it is. Music producers can take note that one of the pieces of equipment hanging from the ceiling is the Boss 303 Dr. Rhythm Sampler. Some of the sounds are coming from the installation, and other sound is just spilling over from the live performances that were happening on the lower floors.
This particular installation was only up for one night as a side piece for the opening party of a video art exhibition at the Platform L (aka Loop) gallery space in the Hongik area of Seoul. Hongik is continuing to look more and more like a fashionable neighborhood of Tokyo everyday. Cool little buildings and quirky bars are popping up all over the place. It’s a vibrant neighborhood of clubs, art schools, galleries, and even woodworking shops.
As for myself, for this party, I had set up two projectors and all my VJ equipment. I didn’t get set up on time, and had serious concentration problems, distracted by all the movement around me. Then, my computer got on some weird setting, which I realized the next day could be attributed to something on my display-output being set as “Pal” when of course it should have been “NTSC.” But of course this is all just excuses for the fact that I hadn’t quite thought everything through before the night of the event.
